What is the origin of the words goofy and regular in snowboarding ?
July 8th, 2008 | by admin |I would like to know why skateboarding and snowboarding stances are called goofy and regular. If it is possible, I would also like to know what is the normal etymology of these words (I think regular comes from latin but I’m not sure).
Thanks in advance.

I just know that most people ride with a certain foot towards the back, that is regular. People who have the opposite foot back – their stance is called goofy. I ride regular.

Goofy footed means your right foot is in front.

Most people ride with the left foot forward or regular. Because most righthanded people ride this way, the others (typically left handed folks) were called goofy by the larger crowd. Now, most skilled riders choose a neutral stance and learn to ride both ways. A regular rider who starts a ride or trick out goofy (or vice versa) is typically referred to as riding switch.
