How much does my snowboard size really matter?

July 2nd, 2009 | by admin |

I recently got a snowboard from a friend at a very good price. It was longer than recommended, however its only my second year snowboarding (I am learning very quickly) and the price was a steal. I am around 130lbs and the board is a 161. People fret over how massive it is but i don’t understand how a few centimeters will make a difference to someone who doesn’t know any better. What do you guys think, is it too long? Thanks for your help.

Hey bro. To make a better comment i would need to know how tall you are. But at 130lbs i’m guessing you aren’t super tall. To be honest, yes it is too big of a board for you. When you are starting out you’ll prob first learn how to carve etc. With less height and weight, both of those things become more difficult with a larger board. If you can learn on that, great, props to you. But you should know that it will be harder to learn if the board is twice your size.

Maybe turn around and resell the board, maybe make some money on it :-P be a good investement. lol ho
    hope it helps man.

A LOT it will affect your turns and though you don’t know this difference when you learn you will notice it may be to long to do anything else. I would recommend that you seel this board and use the money to get a new one.

yea it will feel awkward and be much harder to handle. im 5 ft 7 about 135 so im gonna guess we’re around the same height. i ride a 151. that board is 10 cm to big for you. thats a lot. however, selling it would actually be a pretty good idea, especially if its in good condition and you can make profit off it. try craigslist or ebay.

i always thought that height mattered but it really doesn’t it is basically what your comfortable with depending on the type of riding you do and your weight if you dont want to break the board..
